Yoga, food, and health. Notes from the perspective of a certified Yoga practitioner today, around the year 2010, which is thousands of years after the fundamentals of yoga were first described.
I’ve found yoga to be a great way to let go of stress created from the tight deadlines of my engineering projects. Also, it loosens up the body, after so much time spent at a desk and keyboard. Mankind wasn’t made to hunch forward over a computer in a cubicle! Instead: straighten, extend, open, deepen the breath. Even 10 minutes of yoga during the day can work wonders.
Over the years I hear interesting anecdotes regarding yoga. Many people have told me that doing regular yoga cured them of their nicotine smoking habits, without really trying; the craving went away on it’s own. Usually our diets change as well – one recent student said, “Doing yoga makes me want to eat more plants, I feel lighter and have more energy.” After a good yoga regimen, the senses are brighter and the mind is calmer. In the words of another student:
There must be something to this yoga stuff!
