Light Winds South of Bahia Santa Maria, MX10 nm South of Bahia Santa Maria, MX, 2013South of Bahia Santa Maria (Santa Maria Bay), Baja California, MX, the winds turned light. Over one hundred sailboats departed the bay at first light to head south. The other sailboats in the southbound sailing rally could be seen close and dotting the horizon in all directions. We maintained just over 4 knots in light winds on a reach with main and jib. The rhumb line was laid by the chartplotter, and we engaged the tiller autopilot once the heading tracked. Our speed over ground kept us near the front of a group of sailboats larger than ours.
